Crypto’s speed and irreversibility make it a favourite tool for investment fraud. The platforms change names constantly, but the playbook stays the same.
The build-up
Many crypto scams start with a friendly message or a “wrong number” text that turns into weeks of relationship-building before any investment is mentioned — a tactic often called “pig butchering”.
The fake platform
You are steered to a slick trading app or exchange showing steady gains. It is a facade: the numbers are fabricated and the funds are gone the moment you deposit.
The exit trap
When you try to cash out, new “fees” and “taxes” appear. Paying them only feeds the scam.
